But since a sociopath seems to be defined as a person without a sense of guilt, wouldn't that fit the definition of criminally insane?No. Criminally insane is someone who doesn't know right from wrong and has no concept of the consequences of her actions and thus cannot be held responsible for those actions since it would defeat the whole point of justice and deterrence. Someone with no sense of guilt or empathy OTOH fully understands what she's doing but chooses to do it anyway. Like a cold-blooded murderer. Or a dictator. Or a Morgan Stanley employee. |
