The fact that alcohol consumption didn't drop during Prohibition is also a myth. By 1925 it dropped by half compared to pre-Volstead Act levels. That alone is not a defense of Prohibition, since said drop also came with so many of the well documented side effects of criminalizing liquor (violence with organized crime, poisining and death as a result of poor quality bootleg liquor, etc).If you endorse full legalization of an activity once classified as a vice, you must accept that there will be an increase in the participation of said activity. |
