I've seen how those exit taxes work. Perhaps you're forgetting the other angle that makes it all worthwhile for the very wealthy though - "repatriation tax" on the money kept offshore. That's even bigger dollars. Once you've shipped enough over there, the exit taxes on what doesn't come back here is peanuts compared to the savings of cashing out "over there" ... our tax attorney has told us hairy stories of just how WORTH it it is to play that, much to our own country's chagrins. :( |
