Vietnam was already going while Eisenhower was in, it blew up while Kennedy was busy scaring the shit out of Nikita. Once that happened, had Goldwater gotten in, Diem and Ky would have been toast and taken over by their own military, Goldwater would have taken advantage of the economics and begun the bankrupting of Russia which finally came to pass with Reagan spending the money we DIDN'T have by that time. It would have been a better, and saner outcome.Goldwater wasn't a madman despite the daisy ad. |
