Their main party is the former Italian Communist Party, which rebranded itself in 1991 to the Democratic Party of the Left, then merged with various ragbags (Labor Federation, Republican Left, Unitarian Communists etc) in 1998 to form the Democrats of the Left, and again with more ragbags (mainly the Margherita Party and Sardinian regionalists) in 2007 to form the Democratic Party. They are democratic in the same sense as the German Democratic Republic, the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. won a majority. Because some idiot made a law that awarded the largest party 200 extra seats. This isn't democracy, and it's just typical that it's 200 extra ex-Communists this time. |
