You've obviously never visited Big Bend Country in West Texas. Much of the area is part of the Chihuahuan Desert. The desert's mountains, valleys and plains offer a rugged beauty that must be seen to be appreciated. The Hill Country region offers rolling hills with beautiful wildflowers. There are plenty of gorgeous lakes and rivers, too, because the state parks are magnificent. I'm partial to the Piney Woods in East Texas. It contains thousands of acres of pine and hardwood forests, and the state's four national forests and five state forests are here. During the fall the colors are breathtaking as the trees turn - we've got sassafras, persimmon, maples, magnolias, sweetgums, dogwoods, elms and oaks. The Rio Grande Valley in the South Texas Plains is one of the best birding and butterfly-watching spots in North America. The San Antonio River Walk is very pretty. Don't knock what you don't know! |
