I think certain people ought to get a new hobby. Why? Because they claim they like trains and buses yet they're not happy with the equipment that is operated. The equipment is what it's all about for a hobbyist.

It's all about resistance to change. I'm sure that when the RTSs came out people had similar reactions to them that they are having now to the Orion VIIs (buses) and R160s (trains).

That has nothing to do with it. People didn't resist the Orion V. Most non-foamers love the R160's. People simply hate a low floor bus that makes incessant noises, wastes space, makes you feel crammed, and creates a safety hazard by forcing you to walk up the stairs to reach the back seating.

If forcing you to walk up the rear stairs is a safety hazard, then it's a safety hazard to board a high-floor bus (and more so, because there are more steps.)

Most non-foamers like the hybrids.

No it's not resistance to change, the new Citaro artic and the R160s are awesome (although the R106s would be more awesome if they had a clear RFW and Adtranz propulsion), it's just that the Hyshits simply suck.

I'm a big fan of the GM New Looks GMC RTS TMC RTS MCI Classics Orion Vs and Flexible Metro Bs...mostly the older equipment as you can see.
I do like the Orion VII CNGs but I hate the Orion VII HEVs. I like the sound effects on the CNGs. The HEVs just sound like spaceships and are rather dull.
I look at it like this: If that's what the MTA wants to get, then I have no choice but to accept it as is. I do photograph them. They are unique in their own way. I just do not like riding on them.

Well I had a Hyshits (good one whoever created that) space shuttle yesterday and a transit worker simply loved it because it was easier for her to get on and off. I don't care for them simply becasue their too low to ground and the lower passenger area is a danger zone if the bus was ever "T-Boned" by another vehicle. Caved in side panels shattered glass and the like. I seen many accidents where folks simply don't use stop signs and plow right into traffic. I pray they don't hit one of those buses. U know all of this about the hybrid bus has nothing to do with the topic that it is under. Could I be wrong?

"Hybrid" refers to the propulsion system, not the bus body. One can have a high-floor hybrid bus, just as one can have a low-floor diesel (or CNG or LNG or gasoline or electric trolley) bus.

The Orion 7 doesn't make much sense..

If folks didn't want to walk up the "front steps" of the older models to GET ON THE BUS...what would make you think THEY WOULD WANT TO USE STEPS INSIDE a bus?

The NOVA LFS has a very nice ramp in the rear that rises the further back you go...That is a well "designed TRUE LOW FLOOR BUS"...

It's indeed official. LI Bus, MTA Bus and NYCTA Bus will merge into a new organization by June 1,2008 with Joseph Smith as head. Outgoing LI Bus President Neil Yellin has accepted a position with LIRR. The circle that began with Metropolitan Suburban Bus Authority in 1973 will be closed with this merger. I'm not sure if or when both MABSTOA and LI Bus will lose their identies after the merger.
