Yuck! Just what we need: another "smiley face" bus that looks pumped up on steroids.
I'm sure it takes after the late lamented Compobus.
BTW I'd rethink my screen name if I were you. May be jinxed. (LOL)
BTW (again) thanx for the shot.

I guess that will carryover to the future D-DE30/35/40/60LF and as well.

It's better than the ugly boxes that New Flyer has on the road now.

Wow, They updated the front real good. It has a creepy smilie face look with those little small headlights and the tounge sticks out. Maybe MTA could order few E40's right now!

It'd only make sense for the MTA to use E60LF buses on their crosstown local routes. The electric buses would save fuel and maitenance costs on routes which find their buses normally operating at low speeds with frequent stops. This is the perfect regime for an electrically powered bus as opposed to a diesel or CNG powered bus. A hybrid would solve some of the problem, but without it building up some speed the regenerative braking system would have little to charge the batteries off of and the diesel would likely remain in relatively constant operation.

I believe H and F were used interchangibly by busfans and even TAs during the Ballard Fuel Cell bus program in Vancouver and Chicago. However "H40LF" appears nowhere on the New Flyer website, the unofficial NFI production list, or in any literature I have seen released on those buses by NFI or Ballard. It'd seem the official letter is 'F' for a fuel cell, and since the program only included hydrogen fuel cells and didn't attempt to use petrolium based fuel cells, H is somewhat redundant in the designation. I suppose if the H desginator refers to a process of developing power from hydrogen gas outside of a fuel cell (such as combustion in a modified diesel engine), or if petrolium fuel cells come into use on NFI buses (however unlikey that is) then "H40LF" would be a legitimate designation.

Like I said in the previous post, that project was cancelled. Right around the time of the "F" Model, NFI was being innovative and trying to develope a straight Hydrogen model, but like we see, it didnt go anywhere. But in literature that I have from NFI, "H" is used for that purporse only.

No, no...this particular unit is a an ETB (electric TROLLEY bus).

If it were a hybrid, it would be designated DE40LF (diesel-electric) or CE40LF (CNG or LNG-electric).
