I have often wondered why the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) does not sell advertising space on the exteriors of these buses but as we see these buses all day it kind of allows the bus to fade into the background of Island life without the added "noise" of the ads. |

I was disappointed myself when 96 St on the "6" and other non-ad having stops, got the "ad treatment", took the character of the stop away, IMO :( |

They have local/express service? I rode the RIOC once...the route went around the island and it didn't seem that long at all.Nice Orion VIIs. Are the D40LFs still there as spares? |

Please define sign codes ? and flyers? The RIOC buses are currently set up under three categories for the morning rush hours. (a) Octagon Express - which run straight from the Octagon residentail complex down to the subway with no stops; (b) Octagon Local - self explanatory; and (c) Firehouse Local - which runs locally from the Firehouse / 40 River Road down through the subway / tram stops as a local. The Octagon Express is funded by the Octagon. I am unsure if fully or partially. |

Pics of the flyers then would be the following diesels. There are a few of these still in operation on the Island. Not sure how often they run. I plan on meeting with the RIOC operations contact sometime in the near future and I will ask any questions sent to me.![]() ![]() |
