Trackless is on the move-Philly |
|
|
Posted by TransitChuckG on Wed Jun 20 17:00:11 2007 I rode on the 75 today with my bus driver friend. We spotted the trackless in training at Bingham & Wyoming, westbound ,where I got this shot. The coach has been on all three trackless lines ,no problems to report so far.It is running sweet. the other 37 coaches are on order, should be here Feb. 2008. ![]() Chuck Greene |

I had to do it really fast as the coach was moving along nicely. So far,so good. When the fleet comes in next February, 2008, there's talk of some charters. I'll keep you guys updated. |

That's one good-looking trackless. Can't wait to ride them in regular service. Do I sense fan-trip? Best wishes, Bob |

So based on this and subsequent postings, is it correct that only the Frankford Routes - 59, 66, 75 - will get new trackless coaches? If that is true 38 coaches seems like a small number for those three routes, considering that 59 and 66 are long and busy feeder routes to the El. How many coaches are required on those routes? |

I am very excited about this project.SEPTA decided to buy only 38 coaches for the three Frankford routes. I am sure they calculated rush hour usage and spares. The remaining 40 Ft. Neoplan buses,(35 of them) from 1988, IIRC, will be scrapped when the full fleet of coaches is in and running on the street. Again they calculated an additional 23 coaches for the 2 Southern routes, 29 & 79, which also would need some improvements to the wires and infrastructure, plus a planned extension of the route 29 to Pier 70. So there is little hope left for those those two routes. I agree that 38 coaches does seem a bit high, but I have to trust SEPTA's planning. |

It sounds like they ordered 3 extra ETB's for Frankford so that could be for the service expansions they might be planning for who knows what or to to have some spare ETB's around |

BTW, the coach is beautiful and drives like a New Flyer bus, after which it is designed. The operators are being trained on it and are very excited! |

Thanks. When the fleet comes in, the first units will be assigned to the "early straight" runs, so they will get a good workout. They are so much like a New Flyer Low Floor bus, they should be OK. The only issue so far is they won't fit in the Frankford wash bay. So they may have to brush wash them outside. |
