PHOTO: A bus in Bordeaux

I've been in France for the past two weeks, which is why I was absent from this board. My itinerary took me to the cities of Bordeaux, Paris, Angers and Chartres, in which I was able to sample the various transit operations.

Below is a Renault PR180.2 in service in the city of Bordeaux. These are endangered buses that are currently being replaced by new Irisbus/Iveco vehicles.

Enjoy... more pictures to come later, so stay tuned.

The city of Angers had an interesting fleet composed of Renault Agora Ls and various Scania vehicles:

With 4 doors the seating Capacity on that bus...at the most is 40 or less....That's pointless wait it's low floor also. So tell me what's the point of an Artic that has a seated capacity of 30 lets say and an overall capacity of 75....better of with an RTS anyday. The only Artic worthy of NYCT is the NF D60HF proven many times. The only other Artic that had a shot is the diesel AN460HF. Neoplan went bankrupt before NYCT struck a deal to save them(my opinion).

Pretty neat looking artics, and I like the fact that they have four passenger doors - much faster passenger movement in rush hours!

Are those Renaults (besides the one of the Scania)? They sure love their Renaults in France. Paris's main TA, the RATP, runs all kinds of Renault vehicles (I'll have to dig up a few pics that I took while I was in Paris a couple weeks ago.)

Nice pics!

The RATP operates an efficient bus network through Paris and its banlieue. Unfortunately, all of the Saviem SC10s and Renault PR100s are gone; the city has a fleet of Heuliez GX317s; Renault R312s, Agoras, Agora Ls, and Agora Lines; M*A*N NL263s; and Iveco Citelis buses.

Heuliez GX317

Renault Agora L

Renault Agora

Iveco Citelis

Renault R312 (the only high-floor buses still operating)

Renault Agora Line

M*A*N NL263

More can be found here; enjoy!

There's something you don't see around here. Those buses have what appear to be a combination roll/flipdot sign.

That's true -- the route number is on a rollsign while the destination is on a flipdot sign, in most cases.

Now if only the colors on the rollsigns meant anything. The Paris bus map is stuck in the 60s.

I'd like to know how teh rear doors with teh DO NOT ENTER symbol
are policed?? and if there is a mechanical method which prevents geese
from entering teh bus from teh rear doors??

I say W00T to teh four doors per side, too.
