Two new "Culture Loop" buses are inaugurated on this date - M41 (Culture Loop I) which runs from Eighth Avenue and 31st Street to 155th Street and Broadway, with 22 stops; and B88 (Culture Loop II) from Borough Hall-Brooklyn Heights to 42nd Street and First Avenue, with 29 stops along Brooklyn and lower to midtown Manhattan, traveling in both directions via the Manhattan Bridge. Both routes run Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, with 15 minutes' headway on M41 buses and running on that route from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. and B88 buses from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M.; both would be discontinued after September 3, 1984.
(Sources: Motor Coach Age, June-July 1975 - article by Bernard Linder, route history by Donald W. Harold and Mr. Linder - and claiming B88 was first inaugurated October 20, 1973; Manhattan Bus Guide, New York City Transit Authority / Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority, 1974.)
