May 24, 1964 - The Book of Route Service Changes
Manhattan, New York
Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority
(NYCO Division)
Effective as of this date, the M-107 - 106th Street Crosstown line's western terminus is cut way back from 110th Street and Riverside Drive (which it had been from its launch on September 9-10, 1962) to 106th Street and Fifth Avenue (this, after losing approximately $400 a week over a period of three successive six-month trials). In addition, its frequency of service is cut back to one bus per day, operating two trips a day Mondays through Saturdays and one trip on Sundays. It will thus remain in this "half a route," franchise-holder status until its discontinuance on January 6, 1974, after which the easternmost part of its route (Third Avenue-FDR Drive on eastbound runs, and FDR Drive-Lexington Avenue on westbound runs) will form a new branch of the M19 - 96th Street Crosstown (that branch is today M106).
