January 10-11, 1971 - The Book of Route Service Changes
Manhattan and Bronx, New York
Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority
(FACO and Surface Transit Divisions)
Numerous changes to key bus routes in Manhattan and the Bronx are placed into effect on January 10:
- Rt. 5 - Fifth Avenue-Riverside Drive's northern terminus is extended from 168th Street and Broadway to 178th Street and Broadway, connecting directly with the George Washington Bridge Bus Station
- M-100 - Broadway-Kingsbridge has its third extension into the Bronx in six years, from 246th Street (its northernmost terminus since February 15, 1970) to the City Line at West 263rd Street and Riverdale Avenue
- Bx-9 - Eastchester Road is rerouted via Schieffelin Avenue, 229th Street and Laconia Avenue (replacing the Bx-14A which was discontinued on January 8)
- Bx-10 - Riverdale Avenue's hours of service are reduced to 6 A.M.-9 P.M. weekdays
Another set of service changes in the Bronx takes place on January 11:
- Some runs of Bx-2 - Concourse-Hub that travel via Bedford Park Boulevard and Paul Avenue are reduced to one school trip daily
- Bx-15 - Gun Hill Road is extended to Fordham Road and Valentine Avenue
