Justitia OMNY Bus

If I have an OMNY Card with less than 2.90 on a bus, will it take the balance and allow the remaining payment with coins like with MetroCard? I assume no since they're going to get rid of coin payment.

I once had less than $2.90 on my OMNY card - and after finishing my trip, when the vending machine read it, it showed a debit balance (-$##.##). But I wouldn't advocate doing that, I'd check the balance before going forward at any subway station where such machines are present.

I was going to say the same thing. I had a -$1.40 balance yesterday. Too bad the scanners don’t remind you of your balance when to tap

Then you refilled it and it covered the debit? I've never used an OMNY card.

Yes. I thought I had loaded about $20 dollars on it and I certainly haven’t taken that many rides. When I went to tap it was declined so I checked it out on the machine and sure enough it was negative. I think I may have accidentally switched cards with one of the kids or the missus.
