They SHOULD act cautiously given their history. They ordered a bunch of Designline CNG coaches only to have most of the order cancelled and the few that were delivered taken out of service when the company went belly up. Having these new electric buses built by a known quality vendor assures that they product will be backed by a reputable company, not some fly by night that makes empty promises.

Just more evidence of the "NJT Curse" - manufacturers that went under or ceased operations in the US after building buses for NJ Transit:
- Flxible
- Volvo
- Eagle
- Neoplan
- Millennium
- DesignLine
- NABI

...and honorable mention to Nova who stopped production of the RTS. MCI and New Flyer are the only surviving brands, and MCI was acquired by New Flyer to keep from going down themselves.
