A cop kneeling on a prisoner's neck until said prisoner dies, on sharp, clear video for all the world to see, does not suggest a well-supervised police force.The Camden, NJ city police department is an example. The whole agency was so out of control it was disbanded and rolled into the new Camden County PD. All the old city cops had to reapply to join the new department, and some of them didn't get rehired. Over the next couple of years, they completely overhauled policy and procedure. The result? Last summer, when rioting swept the country in the wake of the George Floyd killing, residents of Camden and their cops marched peacefully, together. No looting or civil unrest took place in that city at all. That's what is needed between the police and the people they protect in today's society. |
