Photo in retrospective of storms on Staten Island. November, 1950. A postwar GM bus on 3 Castleton Avenue, stuck in sand. Cannot figure out fleet number.

Is that a 35-foot bus? Thanks.

No. It's a 40 foot GMC TDH5101, a model unique to NYC Board of Transportation which ordered it in 1948. The double width front door was designed for routes terminating at St. George ferry or subway terminals in Queens, where large numbers of riders boarded or alighted at the same location. There were 400 such buses in total in NYC - about 100 ran on Staten Island, 200 in Queens, and 100 in Brooklyn.

I see the # as 4784. The GM TDH5101 Production List states the fleet #s for the NYC Transit System were 4500 - 4899.

What happened to my post? LOL!
I was mentioning photo # 8 dated Aug. 13, 1978. In the background there is a Flxible New Look with its engine compartment open. It appears to have been caught in a flood.

Thanks for clarifying. I though my adblocker was being too aggressive.
