Posted by Chicago44 on Fri Jun 26 08:38:35 2020

I'm surprised that know one posted this but I just saw this on nyctransitforums that starting this Sunday, June 8, the B1 bus goes to articulated.

Different flow over here, bro.
Seems like nobody's really interested in busses over here too much.

Any information I need about Bus operations, TransitForums is where I go.

Most people do not isolate themselves to one site, so I'm sure everybody here knew about it already.

I don't claim to be in the majority, but for NYC bus and subway news I don't go looking anywhere else but here. If it doesn't show up here, I'll find out like anyone else in the general public, which is fine.

I heard the B1 was going articulated but didn't know the date until I saw this thread.

What is the sense in doing this now. Drivers are paid more and fuel costs are higher. It was proposed mainly due to the crowds from Kingsborough. The B1 now only carries about a half dozen passengers at a time.

The mid-day B1 I was on this past week was already 50% full by the time it left 86th/4th. Any additional passengers getting on at later stops would need to sit next to someone.

Contrast that to the mid-day S93 which often has ZERO passengers on it leaving Bay Ridge. And mid-day S53 which has about 3 passengers max.

The schedules get adjusted to compensate for larger capacity. Fewer buses less drivers longer wait times.

A whopping $0.25 per hour (or maybe they raised it to $1 per hour now in the last contract)...do you honestly think that's going to make the MTA decide not to put artics on?

It still adds up.

What about the extra fuel cost? With the gigantic deficit and no fares being collected, you would think every penny counts unless they figure they will just make it up with a $9 fare.
