NJT Question

Posted by Spider-Pig on Fri May 29 23:53:45 2020

According to the NJT website they’ve adopted rear door boarding where equipped. Does that mean that such routes are fare free like on NYCT/MTA Bus?

Yes. There is just no way to pay the fare.

Also true of MBTA buses in the Boston area. I've already taken several free rides.

Rear door boarding is one of the reasons the largest TAs in the country have been requesting federal funding to support operating costs. While the deficits are primarily from the loss of passengers, a percentage is also due to the loss of fare collection by rear door boarding. NJT has already received $1.4 billion and has requested an additional $1.2 billion.
