Denver RTD Route 0

Posted by WMATAGMOAGH on Wed Jan 29 12:56:30 2020

Does anyone know how or why the RTD in Denver has a route 0 as part of its bus system? Since that is a number that is pretty much never used for route designations, I find it significant that Denver does use that number. I was curious about this when I was in Denver in 2014 and a recent trip there sparked my curiosity about this again.

Phoenix also has a route 0. Clearly a non-user came up with that idea.

In Phoenix Route 0 Makes sense, Since all Valley Metro route #'s correspond with just a few exceptions to the Block Number. Central Avenue is 0 E/W.

Is that the letter O or the number 0? A Philadelphia city route had a letter O bus ,as did our older Suburban route , which had an O bus. IIRC, the instruction trolley at Wyoming shops had the number 0.

By that logic, the M21 should have been renamed the M0.

In Phoenix it is the number 0, for the reason explained.

Way back in the day, Los Angeles Railway may have had a route letter O, but I'm not 100% sure about that

Although this is not exactly the correct forum, although it is an IRT line, the #7 Flushing Line has been over the years handled by the BMT in the Command Center (now RCC). At some point when I was in the schedule office, I suggested renaming the Flushing Line with a letter “O” which could also be reinterpreted as a number “0” since the line was sort of a hybrid between the BMT and the IRT. With the character in question, the line could be identified dually as an IRT and a BMT line since that was in a sense what it was.

It's a zero. Not so hard to look that part up:

Was there recently and wondered the same thing.

So, back to the original question, isn't Broadway the E/W split in Denver, just like Central Avenue in Phoenix?

Yes, Broadway is the N/S axis of the street grid, so that should answer the question.
