I think you have to have a really special street to do this.There really isn't any purpose to cars on a street that is heavy in pedestrians and stores if there are very nearby parallel streets. The cars are only there for show and to blow out your eardrums. Yet, on the other hand, declaring a street car free does not make it come to life. I know of some emtpy busways that are good for the buses....if they actually did something with the lights, but the street is dead. I think they've been doing this in Toronto on busy streets, really speed up the trams. |
