I object to news stories using the terms "miracle" and "miraculous." Those are religious concepts and have no place in a factual description.

IAWTP!

Doesn’t really apply here, but I really hate when it’s described as a miracle that no one dies in a natural disaster because of the efforts of humans to save lives.

Example: The “miracle” on the Hudson. God sent birds to murder the people on that airplane and a human pilot (and arguably the design of the aircraft) said “not today.”

Saw that on Ch2 news at 11.

Hope they follow up...I'm really curious about what caused this.

The TV news stated brake failure. Something about witnesses seeing the driver standing on the brake pedal trying stop the truck. But that's the TV news so...........

That sounds possible, that’s scary, losing your brakes with any vehicle, especially a truck.

Yes, or a "miracle" that no one died in a vehicle accident. It's mainly because of the improved safety features built into modern vehicle construction. Therefore, a totally intentional and predictable result.

I assume the truck was impounded by police to determine the cause. The truck didn't look that old on the video.

Journalistically, it seems to be used as a synonym for "good luck." It is bad use of the English language.

“Good luck” is the same problem. Going back to US 1549 and Sully, that plane had awful luck, given that thousands of flights avoid flocks of geese and have uneventful flights, arriving safely at their destination. I tend to use “luck” as a contrast to “skill.” The so-called “Miracle on the Hudson” was an example of horrible luck and great skill.

But even with Sully's great skill, people might have died. There was luck too, though skill should be given proper credit.

TBH, when I first saw the subject line of this thread, I thought that the truck in question was expressing its opinion of the overpass in a particularly vulgar manner. I didn't even know garbage trucks were capable of such behavior.

1. Either G-d didn't send the birds at all - they were acting as per the laws of natures; or,

2. G-d sent the birds to down the plane but not murder the people, as per how the story played out.

I don't understand. It most likely had airbrakes. Don't airbrakes have springs that will lock if there is brake failure, loss of air or pop the parking brake? What else can be called brake failure? The pedal breaking? there is still the parking brake

I don't know much about trucks, but our semi-trailers , (Gindy-Budd-Thayco),had spring brakes if the air level went down to a point.
