Had a good day (Monday) at the NECA trade show. I probably saw almost every type of bus operated by SEPTA other than a Proterra, but I was pretty much confined to the area around the Convention Center/Reading Terminal Market, and the blocks around my hotel, a block away from the Cathedral.

This is the first bus in long while with a rear window for Septa. Our trackless trolleys from 2007-2008 have a rear window so the operator can see the ropes when he switches or turns a corner, if the ropes look crazy, he knows he will lose his poles!
The trackless trolleys were the first Septa vehicle to use the New Flyer restyled front, that has become common, in the past 10 years for many agencies.

Several people have told me that the Proterras will be in service soon on the 29 & 79 in South Philadelphia. Proterra

Also, our Midvale district has received the first New Flyer Charge bus , in Bright Red and will be testing it soon, on one of their routes, it's a 35 Foot bus, the Protrerras are 40 foot long.

Last week , we learned the Proterras on Septa Property (approx. 20 of the 25) are all being sent to ABC in Camden , NJ. Some were seen traveling over the Walt Whitman bridge. They will be getting modifications to the front suspension and wider front tires. Any buses not shipped to Septa will get the modifications at the Proterra factory.

Heading over to NJ. (Facebook photo)

Septa , for some reason , is only running the Proterras on weekends . They having been showing up on the 79, only, the last two weekends and on the 29 , this weekend.#900, 901 , 902 & 903 are out and about. Where the others are(of the 25) , I don't know. Maybe they are getting the "fix" at the nearby shop , or Proterra is making the modifications to the unshipped units at their factory.

There is a neat tracking program I use, to find buses. Tracker-Septa

Thanks for the update on the Proterras. Hope Septa has good luck with 'em. According to our Daily News, the MTA's couldn't keep the charge when they tried to use them on the Brooklyn (L) train loop.
Are the Xcelsiors running at the U. of Pa. in University City? SOmeone mentioned they were out for some odd reason.

It's possible that the Xcelsiors are on routes that pass through the U. of P. University area, I'll check that for you. They use Midis on the LUCY routes, they are all white w/ green/gold trim.

http://www.philadelphiatransitvehicles.info/SEPTA_selector.html
That is a neat program. You select New Flyer Buses, then New Flyer Hybrids, then XD-40s ,and they will show you every Xcelsior bus in service.

I use this program to find the Proterras, so at the moment , there are (4)of them on the 79:)

I see the Xcelsiors on the 21,40, 42, etc.

I've seen 4 so far. T-27 to T-30. But I'll have to check my video (I was chasing them earlier this year).. it might be 5 of them since I saw a T-31 as well.

They also have one Gillig, a couple Van Hools, and a 40-foot Champion or two.

So far, Septa "seems" to like the Proterras , the run them on the Route 79 on a daily basis. We were told that the battery holds up for 12 hours with only a district charge for 2 hours. If the battery gets down to 18%, the operator will either take the coach in or call for a swap.

Keeping my fingers crossed..........

From my reply on Facebook on problems with Septa Proterras.

That is not good news, sounds like a redesign is needed. I heard about the slow acceleration, the steering fix by ABC did not work well, I guess. The kneeler is too slow, probably, and a bad operator's seat is really a bad problem.
