I seem to remember that the Yorkville to Wall Street bus wasn't that successful.

The M23X was later rechristened M90. Does anyone know when it service ended?

It became X23 c.1976 (and was merged with Avenue B & East Broadway's M-7 express bus in 1980), and then X90 in 1988. It was one of many routes eliminated on June 27, 2010 due to across-the-board service cutbacks.

I would disagree with that.

I stand corrected. I had no idea it ran until 2010.

I wonder what they used on QM16 in those days.
I never knew about that bus until the takeover. And it's down the block from my house. I would have began using it in 1999 if I knew.

I can only presume A/C Fishbowls would have been used at the onset.

And there was the matter of MaBSTOA branding its Elmhurst Crosstown route QM16 from early 1973 to mid-1974, before renumbering it Q89. (And its only connection to Manhattan was being assigned out of 54th Street depot.)

I know in '78 when i first knew about the QM17, they used GMC 5309s (the 300 series). They didn't have the route number on the rollsigns until they started using the Grummans.

You sure those buses Green used for their express runs weren't 5307's? 5309's were unique to the TA and MaBSTOA, as were the express-bus 5310's.

That sounds about right. All I know is that they had the tailpipe towards the top of the bus and they were in the 300 series. There were two sets-from around 301~310 and 35x~36x. There was a third set of 5307s (or 09s) numbered in the 100 series.

I reckon that QM16's of the period would have read 'EXPRESS - ROCKAWAY PARK'?

Wow, that corner in 1976 looks like it could have been in the outer boroughs!
