Posted by W.B. on Thu Jan 10 04:14:08 2019

January 10-11, 1971 - The Book of Route Modifications, Adjustments and Service Changes

Manhattan and Bronx, New York
Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority

Numerous changes to key bus routes in Manhattan and the Bronx are placed into effect on January 10:
- Rt. 5 - Fifth Avenue-Riverside Drive's northern terminus is extended from 168th Street and Broadway to 178th Street and Broadway, connecting directly with the George Washington Bridge Bus Station
- M-100 - Broadway-Kingsbridge has its third extension into the Bronx in six years, from 246th Street (its northernmost terminus since February 15, 1970) to the City Line at West 262nd Street and Broadway
- Bx-9 - Eastchester Road is rerouted via Schieffelin Avenue, 229th Street and Laconia Avenue
- Bx-10 - Riverdale Avenue's hours of service are reduced to 6 A.M.-9 P.M. weekdays

Another set of service changes in the Bronx takes place on January 11:
- Some runs of Bx-2 - Concourse-Hub that travel via Bedford Park Boulevard and Paul Avenue are reduced to one school trip daily
- Bx-15 - Gun Hill Road is extended to Fordham Road and Valentine Avenue

Bx-9 - Eastchester Road is rerouted via Schieffelin Avenue, 229th Street and Laconia Avenue

It was this re-routing that allowed them to discontinue the Bx-14 A Edenwald Shuttle.

Actually, it would be to West 263rd Street and Riverdale Avenue, while the West 246th Street terminus was on the Henry Hudson Parkway Service Road. The #M100 stayed that way going to/from 263rd/Riverdale until around February 1989.

I believe that the 1970 extension to 246th Street lead to the discontinuance of the Bx-10 A Spuyten Duyvil line.

I have a 1990 Manhattan map that shows the M100 to the Bronx. 1993 does not. So it would have happened between those two.

And still stands as the Bx31 today.

That was around the same time the Bx20 was introduced and the Bx7 extended to 168/Broadway.

Actually, it was the first major M-100 extension in the MaBSTOA era - to 239th Street, in 1965 - that led to the Bx-10A's discontinuance.

Sounds like the Bx-14A was a weekday route, given its January 8 discontinuance - and the January 11 rerouting of Bx-9.

Your absolutely correct. I saw the Bx-10A once but never had a chance to ride it.
