2969 (4789) out and about |
|
Posted by mack c-49 on Wed Sep 19 21:35:38 2018 Stopped at the 125th Street Metro North station this morning a little after 10 I was surprised to see 2969 (4789) heading east across 125th Street. The livery really stood out. Where was it going and why?(I wish they would restore the authentic fleet number of this bus! Jackie Gleason never drove it!) |

No - the real 2969 was retired and scrapped around the time 100th Street got its allotment of A/C batwing Fishbowls in early '67.Also - isn't this faux "2969" stationed at the Amsterdam depot? |

The pics were taken, according to Getty Images, on Aug. 22, 1955. So it would indeed have been NYCO then. But that bus would have been rebranded as FACL a year later. And another bus from that very same group (I think 2966, running on 18 - 86th Street Crosstown) made a cameo in "BUtterfield 8" (1960). |

Taken on the corner of 56th Street and Seventh Avenue (next to his home base of the time, the Park Sheraton Hotel), facing northeast; Carnegie Hall is in the background. 100th Street depot at the time was home to 1, 2 (the route shown here), 11, 17, 18 (this bus' usual route), 19 and 20.Had this been taken a year later, the tag below the passenger windows, from this position, would have read "ES INC. OPERATOR." |
