Nighthawks

Posted by fishbowls4ever on Wed Oct 11 11:44:36 2017

In the 81 movie Nighthawks with Stallone a bad guy drives a bus into the ocean. It looked like a nycta bus, anyone know fleet number? Or if it was a nyc bus

Definitely not a NYCTA bus. The bus that drove into the river looked to be a 35-footer GMC TDH-4519. To me it looked more like a former PSC-NJ bus.

PS never had 35-foot Fish. They stopped buying 35s in the 1950s with the Old Looks. PS/TNJ/NJBO never had shorter buses again until some of the 1976 Flx New Looks were re-acquired from fallen companies, and when they got the 35-foot Fish from Mercer Metro when they took over as NJT-Mercer. (A number of those ex-Mercer units went to Oradell and ran the lower-use B-routes.)

This happened in 1963. Could this be the inspiration for Nighthawks ?

I don't know if they did, but that's what the bus looks more like to me over NYCTA

YouTube has a crummy copy of Nighthawks. It looks like they used a couple of buses in the movie.

They sure did use a couple at least.

When I saw the subject line I thought "I don't remember a bus in that painting."

Thanks for posting that Nighthawks movie, heypaul. Real, gritty film, I enjoyed the subway scenes besides the bus scenes.

Chuck: Isn't "Nighthawks" a term used for London Transport's night bus routes?

I do not know. Septa calls it’s all night routes at that time of night, “night-liners”!
