The ad at the right resembles the distracting, intrusive, and pompous advertising that Prince Cuomo imposed on the highways. And here it is erroneous.

Those signs recently installed on the (older) Q44SBS buses (they are not yet on the new blue buses) are so frustrating. They cover up the original "Stop Requested" signs and they themselves display "Stop Requested" in the same space as the "Next Stop" above, but they display it in yellow, not red like the original signs which we're used to. Also they don't have a date and time display. The right half of the screen shows the same ads, cartoons, and PSAs over and over. Make that area a little smaller and show the date and time.

They are making some improvements, so there's hope. They used to show PTWASH as the transfer at the stop shown above (and the automatic announcement pronounced it as "twash"), but now it shows LIRR which is better. But it still shows it as a transfer, which it's not, and not as a connection, which it is.

I'm just so glad to see these displays in NYC, which, when working appropriately, may actually rival the best of them around the world. It's about time.

I was going to ask for displayed countdown estimates to various stops along the way next (which should not require much additional technology / programming) but first thing's first!

It shows LIRR, but pronounces it as Lirr, a single, one-syllable word.
Since it's just a text-to-speech program, what do you expect?

Meh some friends from Long Island call it Lirr. I think we need to accept the renaming from our gracious robotic overlords.

Glad they're making some changes. The transfers announced have been really bizarre in places.

If you stayed on the bus past Kissena Boulevard, did they still announce the Main Street & 39th Avenue stop as two different stops, with different transfers?

I got off at Kissena (since it's quicker to walk to the 7 train station from there), so I don't know about any of the stops north of there.

I don't know if these things are on the buses used for the S79, but if they are, I wouldn't doubt it.

Actually, it might make more sense to extend all the way from West Farms Sq to 181 St/Bway in Manhattan combining it with the Bx36 (I assume the 180 ST Xtown still has the same route number).

Nope. It announces 38th Avenue with NO transfers (not even the 7 train), then goes on to Union Street & 35th Avenue.

The southbound version announces the stop at 39th Avenue, with a transfer to the 7 train only. No buses.

Before, it was announcing its arrival at Main Street & 39th Avenue, with transfers to all buses except the Q26, Q27, and Q27 Limited, IIRC. Upon leaving 39th Avenue (the only stop in the area), it announced the next stop as Main Street & 38th Avenue, with transfers to the aforementioned buses. But then it would immediately jump ahead to Union Street & 35th Avenue.

At 35th Avenue, it would announce the Q28, but not the Q13.

At Union Street & 26th Avenue, it announced the QM2, QM20, and QM32, despite two them not stopping anywhere near there. It also completely omits the Q34.
