Blitz bus injures a bus passanger yet they stay in service

This is something I don't understand. when the GMC fishbowl buses were rebuilt to "Blitz" some of them were assigned to express service..especially at Yukon depot(#5500 series). I remember someone getting injured and losing a eye on the blitz bus when it was heading over the Verrazano bridge. The buses were pulled off the express route and sent to local service within the 5 boroughs(HUD and UP are examples).
My question is, if someone gets hurt, why keep the buses in service? If this was a Grumman 870 issue at the time the buses were pulled everywhere. Why not the Blitz?

I think the Grumman 870 thing was a knee-jerk reaction by David Gunn, while he loved the GM Fishbowls. He made sure TTC kept theirs and bought 85 from Montreal (though only used 15 of them).

Why did the passenger lose an eye? Was it from something inside the bus or a projectile aimed at the bus?

The MTA evidently investigated the incident and concluded that the buses need not be pulled out of service but simply reassigned.

What possessed you tho think of that? It happened almost 25 years ago.
It was really at the tail end of their careers, wasn't it? So I'd say they were waiting for their replacements to come in and they were eventually retired within a year or two.

Something happened to the rear suspension and apparently it came through the floor.

The story I heard was the driveshaft came apart and hit the floor, which basically shattered. The fix was run the buses at lower speed to prevent this from happening again.

I could be wrong though, can't trust everything you hear.

Either way it's an odd story.

Just because it happened on one bus, why take the entire fleet out of service? The other Blitz buses were inspected and were fine.

Another interesting tidbit about Gunn is that he served as General Manager at WMATA at a time when they were making Flxible Metro purchases.
