Jersey Dollar Vans Questions

1) Do all of the Dollar Vans in Jersey run 24/7? Last night, I did see the vans that parallel the 128 route on 42nd Street and the 84(?) route at Cliffside Park, but I didn't see the vans that parallel the 125, 159 and 190 routes.

2) What is the northern terminal of the Bergenline Avenue vans? I thought they ended at Nungessers, but as I mentioned before I saw a van last night on Anderson Avenue at Route 5 in Cliffside Park which was unfortunately as far north as I can go since the 159 doesn't serve Fort Lee late at night.

You can scratch this question off. I found out tonight that some of the vans go all the way up to the George Washington Bridge, but most end at some New Jersey Transit bus depot. Excuse me for forgetting the name of the depot but it's right near an A & P if that helps.

The depot you are referring to is Fairview (NJT lines: 128, 154, 156, 158, 159, 321)

As for the routes of the jitneys, the most common route patterns are:

Bergenline Ave:

Port Authority - Nungessers/Fairview (depends on the driver/do they have time to rest)

GWB Bus Station - Newport/Journal Squarre

Boulevard East:

Port Authority - Nungessers/Englewood

Kennedy Boulevard

Port Authority - Journal Square
Port Authority - Nungessers
Journal Square - Nungessers

Thanks for the info. I didn't know that Kennedy Boulevard has dollar vans that go up to Nungessers, neither did I know that the Bergenline Avenue-GWB Bus Station vans go past the Bergenline Avenue HBLR station.

Rubber tired fake "trolley" cars & scab, gypsy vans....

Stop riding New Jersey Transit's coattails. Come back with that attitude when New Jersey Transit learns how to make a map, or better yet, when they aren't upstaged by said "gypsy vans" like they were during the most recent blizzard.

Ok, perhaps I'm still bitter over getting yelled at twice for taking photos, but regardless, if the vehicles that ran on the N53 and W76 can be called buses, then so can the Jersey Dollar Vans.

Can we discuss trucks on buschat? lol. I mean they both use diesel fuel, both use Diesel Engines and you need an CDL to operate both!

With that being said, yesterday on YT I saw an vid of an pickup truck that does that "Coo Coo" sound when the driver takes their foot off the gas. I'm more into the bigger stuff, the Feightliners, Kensworth, international & Macks of the world lol. I got into the Dodge Ram from the movie Twister! They look hot in that Red paint scheme!

While were on the topic of NY Dollar vans, some of them now have limited signs in the windows like B41 & B46 limited buses do, been notcing that lately but forgot to post it lol. Also some of those vans seem to be refitted with train horns, I guess putting train horns on your truck or van is the new thing now.

I'm still trying to find out the answer to this question, but so far I think it's safe to say that the Bergenline Avenue-New York-42nd Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard East vans run 24/7. I also found out that two more routes run 24/7 to Jersey:

• Greyhound Atlantic City-New York route
• Red & Tan in Hudson County 10 and 99S routes (don't know what the difference between them is though looking at the schedule)

I think some of Dollar Van lines are not operated 24/7.

From PABT, Express Service dollar van operates PABT-Journal Square. It is not operated on Sunday and this company operates GWB-Garden State Mall in Paterson, this route also is not operated on Sunday due to Bergen County's Blue Law.(mall is closed on Sunday)

I can most definitely confirm that the John F. Kennedy Boulevard East vans run 24/7. I'm still not sure about the Bergenline Avenue-West 42nd Street vans though, I see them some nights in front of the Port Authority, but other nights they're nowhere to be found. The vans to Journal Square (like you said), Washington Heights, and Paterson (which is interesting since the 190 does) most definitely don't run 24/7 though.

this route also is not operated on Sunday due to Bergen County's Blue Law.(mall is closed on Sunday)

Blue law? Am I responding to a necropost made in the 1940s?

A couple of corrections. Garden State Plaza is in Paramus, not Paterson. The Express Service (or "Spanish Bus" in local lingo) you are referring to runs primarily along NJ-4/Broadway between the GWB and Main & Broadway in Paterson (pretty much across the street from the Broadway Terminal) and it stops at the Plaza along the way.
And it very much runs on Sunday.

The Paterson-Washington Heights vans parallel the 171 except in Radburn where the vans stay on Route 4 instead of serving the Radburn-Fair Lawn train station.

Sorry to bump this thread, but I have a question about the Anderson Avenue vans (JSQ-GWB).

If I exit the PATH at Journal Square, where exactly do I pick them up? How much is the fare to Fort Lee, and how much time should it take to get to Fort Lee?

I'm trying to get from Elizabeth to Fort Lee, and I'd like to try a different way than the typical "Take a train or #112 to Manhattan and the #159 back out", but not if it takes significantly longer.

Most intrastate trips will take longer, simply from using local streets instead of highways.

Don't have the answer for the dollar van question, but some other alternatives for Elizabeth to Fort Lee would be:
- 24/59/62 to Newark, 72 to Paterson-Broadway Terminal, 171 to Fort Lee Bridge Plaza
- 24/59/62 to Newark, 76 to Hackensack Terminal, 182 to downtown Fort Lee

The problem is I'm not going to the area right by the GWB Plaza, but rather down by the SW corner of Fort Lee by Inwood Terrace Park. So the only NJT route in that area is the #159. (I mean, I guess I could make do with the #3 from JSQ and then start walking east, but at that point, I might as well take the jitneys)

I've taken the #72 and know it has some pretty quick portions through Clifton, but at the same time, the frequencies suck, and from past experience, the bus isn't particularly reliable. (The same with the #76, though I don't have any experience with that line).

Now if I were going to Hackensack or Paterson itself, then I'd take those lines. (Though part of me might want to splurge on some railfanning and take the train to Secaucus for the Erie Lines heading north)
