Bus Transfers: Amityville to Flushing

If one were to travel from Amityville to Flushing, and return, by bus—S1 to Walt Whitman Mall, N79 to Hicksville, N20H to Great Neck, and N20G to Flushing—what are the transfer and fare procedures in each direction? That is, is a one-way journey in each direction doable for a single fare, either cash or MetroCard, or is a double fare required; and how are transfers handled with each boarding?

S1 one fare, N79 & transfer to N20H one fare, N20G one fare. Total 3 fares each way.

You can definitely do it on two fares:

S1, transfer to N79 (pay difference)
N20H, free transfer to N20G

In fact, if you went N55-N27-N20H-N20G, you *may* be able to get it done one fare if you paid cash and use paper transfers (MC would enforce the 2 hour limit)...

This discussion illustrates the confusion and lack of transparency as to how the transfer systems work.

There are 2 transfers NICE-NICE-NICE. Where things get confusing is when one of the legs is a different provider.

In an e-mail conversation I had with a NICE representative some time ago, about a separate matter, I was told that a N20H to N20G "transfer" does not count as one of the two transfers permitted on a single fare. So the confusion includes both (1) one leg being a different provider, i.e., Suffolk Transit, and (2) the veracity of NICE representative about N20H to N20G not being counted as a transfer.
