One of the Flxibles from green lines was bought by pintos driving school on linden Blvd. It was parked on a side st near commands yard. This was late 80s early 90s. All they did was take greens name off a Nd left it in greens colors and it still had greens number low 200s is all I recall. |

Probably because the ad rack was mounted in such a way that there were a few inches between it and the A/C unit/condenser. Still makes me think it could affect the A/C, but that may have not been much of an issue because in those days the TA weren't really maintaining the A/C on buses that were equipped. By the late 70s, it was rare to find a TA/OA new look bus with working A/C. Even when the TA did start maintaining A/C consistently... It was in the 80s when the ADBs came along with their climate controlled systems. Even at that point they still weren't paying to much attention to new look A/C other than those on Express routes and of course the Blitz buses once they rec'd their A/C retrofits. |

I remember getting on one in 1985 at LGA freash out of the Navy. Transportation Manufacturing Corporation bought the RTS design from General Motors Corporation in 1987. Was it a 1979 GMC RTS II T8H-203 owned by the Port Authority and operated by Hudson General, or a 1981-1985 GMC RTS II T8H-204 run by NYCTA, or was it a PBL equivalent of both of these models? Starting with the '66 GMC 5303 (8001-8202, 8301-8780) order all further bus purchases for MTA (NYCTA, MABSTOA & MSBA) were A/C equipped which was a good idea, in my opinion. The real problem is the deferred maintenance era of the 70s. A/C was clearly not a priority, and generally you didn't find it working too often, especially on most older buses. I always thought the TA did a bit better with the subway car fleet in terms of functioning A/C, but they suffered as well. |
