This is why hybrid buses are not practical from a maintenance standpoint. Just too expensive to maintain. Plus I doubt if they can squeeze 15+ years out of some like you can do to a diesel. |

The Orion VII (and Novas) was designed with a stainless steel frame to prevent corrosion and the frame has a minimum 18 year design life. Buses like the Orion V and New Flyers use mild steel which even with protective coatings are still prone to corrosion/rot after being on the road for years. |

It would have been better to have stuck with clean diesels tech.Todays diesel engines are just as good,if not better than the hybrid tech used on the older models.. Most likey,this is PART OF the reasoning behind the MTAs decision to continue purchasing clean diesel buses. |
