I guess that intersection is different but IIRC the QM11 and the Q46 routinely make U-turns as part of their operation on Queens Blvd and there are no (non-jaywalking) pedestrian conflicts. |

" Change requested by NYPD to avoid U-Turn at 63rd Rd./Queens Blvd. which causes pedestrian conflicts."Is it possible Vision Zero laws are making this happen? |

Since the reconstruction which has been going on since the spring, DOT has been trying to make improvements at that intersection as part of Vision Zero. |

A section of Queens Blvd (including the intersection with 63 Rd) was repaved. There is no other reconstruction happening there. The U-turn that the Q59 makes is done from the left-turn bay during the left-turn green light when all pedestrian signals show "Don't Walk". The only conflict could occur if the bus starts its turn at the tail-end of the green-light cycle and by the time it finishes, the pedestrian signal has changed to "Walk". That new terminal on 62 Rd will be a long block (uphill) from the main shopping area and subway entrance. An alternative would be to have the Q59 turn left onto 63 Rd and terminate at the existing Q38 stop just past the gas station. Then, starting the route, turn left onto 97 St, left onto 62 Rd, with a new stop at Junction Blvd for the mall shoppers, then right onto Queens Blvd and regular thereafter. |

I don't think they would the Q59 layover at the Q38 stop because the Q38 would not be able to pull into the shared bus stop with a Q59 laying over.Should there be a wheelchair getting on or off the Q38 it would be problematical. Not a good idea to use the middle of the street. |

What about just making it like a Q72? Left onto 63rd, then right onto 97th, then right onto 63rd Dr. It can lay over at the pointless bus shelter, then make the turn onto Queens Blvd and pick up at it's current stop. |

Ah well... |

Also, not a typical U-turn in my opinion, the bus really just follows the road, which just naturally changes direction.I remember years back seeing school buses deliberately going south of Gerritsen even when they wanted to go north, just for the easy turnaround. |

I would think the nighttime B7 that ends at Flatbush still does the same thing. It doesn't go around the block as far as I know. The B9s that end at Flatbush I believe go around the triangle east of Flatbush using Kings Hwy to come back. The Bx9 currently makes a U-turn right in the middle of the road at its northern end. I'd say the most dramatic was the B5 and B7 turnarounds during the daytime on Kings Hwy. |

Yes the B 7 still uses Ryder to make its uturn in fact there is a DOT sign that allows for buses only to make turns on the street. I notice they make their turns when Kings Hwy traffic signal is red |
