NY Bus Service also had a route from CoOp City to the New Rochelle Mall around 1969. Not sure when it was discontinued. Ex- Orlando Gray Line transit fishbowls were used for the route.

I suspect that you may not have a New York Times subscription that can give you archived articles. I will begin with an article about the COP-SHOT rewards, the article dated October 29, 1988.

The article states that Edward F. Arragoni runs a company with 410 buses, some serving Eastchester. Born in 1934, he transformed his father's station wagons-for-hire into a major bus company, New York Bus Service.

    I am guessing that the lot or lots along Tillotson Avenue near Conner Street are the original lots he owned for that large fleet. Memory may be deceiving me, but I think the lots included new-look express buses (service from Throggs Neck and East Bronx to Manhattan), school buses, and portable classrooms, all painted red, white, and blue.

    I cannot date the changeover, but school buses for elementary schools did not have to be painted yellow. I think Children's Bus Service of the 1940's was a dark, dirty green. Also, kids generally walked to elementary schools, and older students rode public transit at reduced fares. Therefore, the number of school buses on the road was far fewer than nowadays, after decades of the lambasted "forced busing."

    An article in the New York Times dated December 19, 1983, discussed a strike that began that morning. "New York Bus provides 12,500 daily commuters with non-stop service from Co-op City and other Bronx points into Manhattan, as well as carrying 7,000 Bronx children to school each day."
    "In addition to affecting more than 200 express buses from Co-op City,Parkchester, City Island, Pelham Bay and Morris Park, the strike was expected to affect 125 buses that carry Bronx school children."

    Again, my memory may be misleading. The NY Times reported a U.S. Supreme Court decision of July 1, 1985, forbidding public school teachers entering parochial schools to offer Title 1 remedial programs. I think this is what caused the New York Bus Service to get into the portable classroom business. For a few years, the NYBS classrooms could be found on streets near parish schools or in some school yards. That is, the parochial students would be brought out to the portable classroom for the Title 1 classes so the teacher would not have to enter the church-sponsored school. I think these rooms had air-conditioning units in addition to power and heat. They were painted for NYBS.

    The article linked below does not mention New York Bus Service.

    I have gone through the Google, Bing, and Flickr image sites and can find no portable classrooms marked New York Bus Service. Those in this photo from the Daily News in 2014 are the closest to my memory of the color scheme. Maybe the NYSB trailers were quickly rejected.

    The portable classrooms were trucks that parked outside the school for the day and returned to the NYBS depot.They were blue bottom white top with NYBS logo

    NYBS started as Parochial Bus Service, blue & white school buses. The garage was somewhere on Park Ave in the Tremont section.

    Many thanks about the classrooms that returned to the NYBS lot at the end of each school day. That explains the difference between these vehicles and the more "permanent" temporary classrooms that were at public schools, mostly in Queens.

    I was only about 8 y/o, but I remember seeing the blue/white school buses in the Bronx. Of course Varsity seemed to dominate the school bus scene. I recall their school buses being the typical yellow, but with a red stripe.

    You can also try the Motor Bus Society's website for back issues. They are the publisher of Motor Coach Age as well as Motor Coach today. Be aware that they don't reprint any issues. Once they're gone, they're gone as first hand editions.
