Were there other favorite paths for the express buses from Brooklyn and Staten Island besides the BBT? Do you know or remember much about the routings some of these routes would use, if any, before the tunnel, or did they only start up with the tunnel? |

To answer this and the previous poster's questions:R9X (now X9) was the first express bus between SI and Manhattan, in December 1968. Initial fare was 75 cents. The only other routes used by SI/Manhattan express buses involved going through New Jersey, as some routes such as X17J do today. Prior to the R9X the only express route between SI and Manhattan, as far as I know, was a Domenico Bus Service route that began at the PABT, used the Lincoln Tunnel, NJ Tpke, and Goethals Bridge before discharging on SI. That route started around 1966. Every other Manhattan/SI came later. |
