MTA mistake re Citifield bus service

Once again, as they did last year, the MTA release on transit to ballgames says this about Citifield: "The Q19 (Astoria/Flushing via Astoria Boulevard) and Q66 (Long Island City/Flushing via Northern Boulevard) both stop at 126th Place and Northern Boulevard, four blocks from Citi Field (eastbound) or 126th Street and Northern Boulevard, two blocks from Citi Field (westbound)."

I believe there is no Q19 stop there westbound (though their should be.)

Let's be real: How many people take the bus to Citifield when the train stops right there? Unless you live in the immediate area of the Q19, you're probably better off just taking the subway (even coming from eastern Queens, it's one stop on the 7 train).

Of course, the information should be accurate, but I'd actually be surprised if you had more than a handful of people mistakenly get on the Q19 thinking it stops there.

I agree, but the Q19 should probably not even be mentioned, especially since it stops running well before night games end.

That said, when I was a kid in Astoria, before the Q19 was extended to Main Street, for Mets day games I occasionally took the 19 to its last stop at 102 St., and walked the 2 long blocks to Northern Blvd. to catch the Q66. It helped that I lived just a block from the Q19 stop in Astoria.

There always was a w/b stop there. Whether it was eliminated or missing sign never replaced, does anyone know?

If you look at MTA Bus Time & go to list of stops-it shows w/b stop at 126th St for the Q66,but not for the Q19.

The roadways where the Q-19 runs by CitiField is not a very safe place for pedestrians. It is better to take the Q-48 and transfer to the Q-19. Otherwise the 7 train is the best alternative and transfer to other connections.

Precisely. I have no idea why the 19 would not stop there westbound, when it does eastbound. I emailed MTA a year ago, and they claimed something like "for safety reasons." I emailed them again the week, let's see what happens.

It looks like it was eliminated (quietly). If one looks at the parking regulations database accessible from NYCDOT's website, the north curb of Northern Boulevard, from the William Prince Bridge to the Grand Central Parkway, is regulated in its entirety as "no standing anytime," with no mention of a bus stop, and with four signs that should be erect, each at 40, 200, 325, and 555 feet from the bridge.

So, I emailed MTA about this. Their response: "The press release stating that westbound service is at 126 Street and Northern Boulevard is correct. Our operations planning unit has confirmed that there is a stop there."

But then why is no such stop shown on MTA BusTime?

I think the next time you get on the bus you show the operator the email so he knows to stop.

After this response from MTA, I immediately emailed them asking what's going on - why is there no westbound Q19 stop shown on BusTime for 126th St. and Northern Blvd?

This is their response:

"We regret any difficulty you may have experienced while using Bus Time. As you know, with MTA BusTime, you can receive real-time bus information on a borough-wide basis. Please note that we are in the process of improving and correcting any problems that may arise in this new system. As such, we appreciate you notifying us of the issue that you encountered. We have forwarded your e-mail to the appropriate personnel for review. Based on the specific information you provided, we will be able to investigate and take appropriate corrective action."

This seems to mean that BusTime is wrong and there is a stop there. Lets see what happens next.

I often find strange glitches whenever I attempt to use either the regular BusTime or BusTime Pro. It often shows buses that aren’t even there and fails to show buses that seem to miraculously appear at my bus stop.

Years ago, when I used to take the Q66, and before the Q19 came to Flushing, I noticed that there is no real street corner at 126 & Northern going west, but there is a real corner going east (with a properly-marked bus stop), so going west, some drivers would stop along the side of the median and drop off riders, but there was no marked bus stop there (and no real sidewalk either).

This is under the part of Northern Blvd that is elevated and connects the Van Wyck and Whitestone Expwys and the Grand Central Pkwy and Astoria Blvd, and there are exit and entrance ramps which make the west-bound lanes of the lower part of Northern Blvd very different in character from the east-bound lanes, which do connect to the local street grid while the west-bound lanes do not.
