|
Posted by TransitChuckG on Tue Feb 9 10:43:23 2016 An electrical fault occurs and the light comes on. This seems to happen in cold and damp weather, mostly .The poles drop and you are out of service.Hot coach |

The 59 is unreliable to ride because of this hot coach problem. They are being told again to use EPU mode from Shelmire St. to Bells Corner and back and the TT is so slow on EPU that many are missing their connections. The line should be bused until they can figure out this problem. |

Though it's specifically mocking V/Line (Victoria state railway). If you click the link you will see the top banner indicates that trains are being replaced by buses on several lines until March 13th, ouch! This is apparently due to maintenance of the trains themselves, not the track. |

The negative underground feed cable for the 59 is old, 1920's or so,installed when the 59 trolley went to Lott St., and it's oxidized and corroded. If they have to replace the entire cable ,that will be a massive job. It's also possible that the positive feed cable "could" also be suspect as well as the conduit that both are in , could be bad. There was a lot of talk on Facebook as to they should have figured this was eventually going tom go bad, but that's hindsight now. This is a big problem and may require long time to fix, shutting the trackless line power down, and finding buses to run the line. |

The FTA forced SEPTA to buy the E40LFs because they requested funding for the track less system under fixed guide way financing for the Frankford Trans. Center rebuild. Just because they botched the job of restoring those trackless routes to service should not eliminate their obligation to the Feds after just 7 or 8 years. Those trolleybuses have been used less than half (or even a quarter) of their useful lives and there is nothing wrong with the vehicle side of the system. They need to get the infrastructure worked out. |

They think hey have isolated a bad section, (break?) of underground wire between Stanwood & Rhawn Sts. We'll see what happens about this. It would be cost prohibitive to replace all the cable from Cottman to Bells Cormer, like millions of dollars. Some more power has been turned back on, the EPU restriction is now only between Shelmire and Bells Corner. |

We found out why the Trackless has been acting up mostly on the 59. When Carr & Duff installed the arm traffic signals this past summer northof Cottman Ave.,they cut into the negative feed cable in three places on Castor Ave. There is a lot more to this story but hopefully the Hot Coaches will stop appearing once all the cable spots are fixed. |

They have only fixed 3 of the negative cable breaks on Castor Ave. Septa has acquired the money to fix the other 7 breaks. They had a "Hot Coach" yesterday on Castor ave. #817, at Borbeck St. at 10:10 AM, so the problem is not solved yet. Hopefully when they gat all of the breaks repaired , we'll have good news. Here is a Septa truck working on Castor ave. at Fuller St.., last Friday. The cables are in the center line of the street.
