Apparently the other 7 were not the last... and from the previous price of the 7, I don't know if they're getting their money's worth for the re-tanking costs. This auction ends October 20:

fleet number/year and VIN/mileage/tank expiration/tire cost
-----------------------------------------------------
7014 1999 1M8SDMZAXXP051735.............775,621 - 2033 - $2,174.54
7019 1999 1M8SDMZA7XP051742.............762,394 - 2033 - $1,798.68
7022 1999 1M8SDMZA6XP051747.............760,132 - 2033 - $1,624.19
7027 1999 1M8SDMZA3XP051754.............778,806 - 2033 - $1,879.24
7028 1999 1M8SDMZA9XP051757.............713,730 - 2033 - $1,610.76
7032 1999 IM8SDMZA4XP051763.............800,994 - 2033 - $1,557.08

Large transit agencies use a unique form of justification to spend money. To them these buses would sell for more with new tanks, almost nothing with the old tanks. So, in order to increase the sale price of these buses new tanks had to be installed prior to sale. That they would up losing money anyway is immaterial and after the fact. It's just bureaucratic think.

The seven that were auctioned last month went for $73,600 total (one bidder bought all 7) - about $10,500 each... same year and approximate mileage. Even with the new tanks, it's still a 16-year-old unit with over 700 thou traveled. Don't know what NJT paid for parts and labor for the re-tanking, but at $10K, they're not getting much for the whole coach anyway.
