The winter schedule is still on the pdf, and the MTA Trip Planner is so phucking stupid, it gives no information.Ask for "Flatbush Avenue – Brooklyn College, NY" and "Jacob Riis Park, NY" , which is suggestove text and you get Sorry, we are unable to provide any information based on the input you provided. You may want to try: A different starting or ending point. Please note that the Point to Point scheduler provides schedules between the two points along a single route. Changing the departure date or time. Service in the requested area(s) may not be available during the time you selected. |

It does not like to put you on the IRT because it thinks it takes too long - it insists you take the B41 for one block from the 2/5 subway terminal to the Q35 Avenue H terminus, even if you say minimize transfers or minimize walking. The TA does not regard it as one complex. |

I think they may have programmed a bias to avoid what were "Private" DOT buses and keep all revenue within the TA, then never went back to fix when it became MTA Bus Company. |

Posted by Joe V on Mon Jul 6 17:35:14 2015, in response to Re: Q35 to Riis Park, posted by caine515 on Mon Jul 6 12:04:15 2015. I did a round trip on the Q35 on Sunday.First off, the Trip Planner for the #2 train recognized it ran local south of 34th, but calculated the running times wrong. It takes 41 minutes, not 36 minutes, from Christopher Street to Brooklyn College. There was no slow running. No prolonged station stops. Some trains were arriving B.C. with 2 minuets to spare, but the crews drop back a train. The bus left at 10:54am, after sitting and waiting for 5 minutes. There is a 10:55 on winter schedule, but not on summer schedule. On the way back, the 3:50 Q35 conked out right at Riis Park. Everyone jammed on the next bus, which took a half hour to get back to the subway. This bus conked out around Kings Plaza as wekll but the driver got it started again. Seems JFK has some maintenance issues wit their buses. |

Joe V..the buses assigned to the Q35 are normally assigned to the Far Rockaway depot where maintence on the local buses has been always shabby at best..worse since Sandy. Q35 buses now either come out of JFK or Far Rockaway. The maintence is always bad. |

The online winter schedule shows the summer seasonal diversion to the Riis Park Bath House. But I'm having trouble figuring out the details of where it goes.On the summer route, do buses in both directions stop at the Bath House, or just southbound? The year-round route shows northbound buses using the Beach 169th St turnaround (which is also the Q22 terminus). What's the point of a northbound-only stop here, if there's no way to get off the bus when you return on a southbound trip? The bus stop signs are no help, since they're the old style that doesn't list the destination. https://goo.gl/maps/PJucM https://goo.gl/maps/tVIt9 |

Thanks. And to answer my own question about the northbound B 169 St stop, the timetable and Google Maps say the southbound bus stops here, of all places: https://goo.gl/maps/jjwI5 . Then you have to walk on a sidewalk between the bridge ramps. Breezy Point/Roxbury must have made a big effort to keep buses out, since I don't know of any other NYC residential area that far from transit service. Anyone unfortunate enough to have to take the bus there gets to use these desolate Q35 stops, which I guess is better than nothing. |

Not every schedule updates for every season! The fact that the WINTER schedule references and explains the SUMMER service is a GOOD CLUE that maybe, just maybe, there doesn't need to be a separate SUMMER schedule. If there was going to be a summer schedule issued then there'd be no need to mention the summer service in the winter schedule. |

I'm thinking it had to be political back in the day on what depot got what and the maintence levels. Growing up, I always liked Command and Queens Surface as their buses always were in great condition(especially the wraps on the rts buses that Queens Surface had). Jamaica buses maintence were perfect..they were the only private company to run the Grumman 870 through at least 2002.With Green Bus lines, it seems that the Far Rockaway depot always got the leftover buses. Seems..maybe they felt that customers didn't deserve newer buses. Most new buses Green had went to either Q10,Q11,Q37 or Q60 route. Q35 always had non a/c fishbowls,RTS slopeback or MAYBE if we were lucky a MCI classic. |
