The April 5, 2015, timetable shows on its map weekend Bx5 service to Orchard Beach. Would the Bay Plaza weekend extension replace this in 2016?

Sheesh, just what we need on Co-op City streets along Bartow Av, more buses. AS if there wasn't enough traffic.

Not really because the Bx12 SBS is already fully packed by the time it gets to Pelham Bay Park when headed to Bay Plaza. All extending the 5 will do is make it easier for those who use the Bx5 in that they won't have to transfer to the overcrowded Bx12 SBS at PBP.

I wonder if they will put a Bx5 bus stop on Bartow Av like they did with the Bx12 SBS. It would provide another bus to get to PBP.

Not so Hooray if the MC vending machines keep breaking down and one has to run to the next bus stop to get a receipt.

But it's ridiculous to run SBS during the midnight hours, since the ridership doesn't warrant it. There should be a way of turning off the street vending machines at a certain time, say 11pm, and running regular service until a certain time, say 6am.

The machines could display a message on their screens telling customers to pay on board from 11pm to 6am, and their buttons would not work during these hours.

The only problem is that the last SBS bus passes different timepoints at different times. So the 11PM bus leaving Jamaica finishes up its run after midnight. If buses bunch up (which isn't unheard of on these lines), it could be confusing for passengers.

Of course, there's nothing to lose by just accepting SBS tickets on local buses running after 11PM or whatever the time may be.

There is. The machines on the B44 SBS display a message during the overnight hours that the SBS isn't running and that customers should take the local.

So I wonder why they didn't decide to do something similar on the Q44SBS. Ridership during the midnight hours is so light, and we'll have both the Q44SBS and the Q20A running all night. What a waste!

The Q44 is a regional route. I would support running it every 20-30 minutes overnight.

Yes, Q44 overnight, but Q44SBS during the midnight hours?

SBS is designed to speed up service, but during the night, traffic is so light and passengers so sparse that SBS is not needed to speed up anything. All it will do is make it more inconvenient for those riders who want the intermediate stops.

Which is also a good point regarding the M60 along Astoria Blvd. The Q19 doesn't run at all after ~9PM, and some of those stops are spaced pretty far apart.

At least before M60 became SBS, it had twice as many stops as it does now, so locals could use it. No more.
