A friend at a popular Manhattan bus depot states that 5415 is now 4805.
What's going on?

There's an incoming order of New Flyer XD60s with the fleet number range 5364-5438 coming to MTA Bus. If what your friend told you is true, then that means the other D60HFs numbered 5392, 5400, 5410, 5416, 5418, and 5423 are affected to be renumbered to the 4800s.

It seems weird that they would have to renumber buses. There are less than 5800 buses combined with MTA bus so that leaves some 3200 numbers avail. They do a poor job of planning ahead to set up numbers.

Sorry 4200 avail. Hit the wrong key.

No kidding. I don't understand why the Nova LFSA's were numbered 1290 and up.

Right. It seem like they simply find a block of open numbers and grab it without any thought.

I think Kingsbridge. The buses so far aren't being switched around depots. (staying at their depots)

NJT has at least #1001 to #1600 open and #1640 to #4000 open for the new 1,400 cruiser order going out to bid soon. Plenty of room for new buses. Plus many more smaller groups of numbers avail.
