Septa KEY is getting closer

A customer just got a new senior pass at the Frankford Transportation Center. She was told that after June 18th, 2015, the senior pass will not be accepted, you will have to swipe your driver's license. (I am doing that now). Anybody who does not drive will have to apply for a PA photo ID.

SEPTA’s own website indicates that senior citizens may use their Medicare cards for free transportation. How will a person visiting from out of town and only having a Medicare card gain admission to the transportation center without a Penna driver’s license?

The PA lottery funds free senior transit in many if not all systems in PA.

I'm not sure if out of state visitors without the PA ID are allowed the free rides. I know on Port Authority (Pittsburgh) the formal policy is not to accept drivers licenses as proof of age, only the official ID or a Medicare card.

As I mentioned in my post, the SEPTA website specifically mentions Medicare cards as acceptable IDs for free rides and commuter rail discounts. I doubt if federal law would allow discrimination based on residence since allowing a federal ID brings the Feds into the mix.

That still doesn’t answer my original question about visiting out of state riders who only have a Medicare card. SEPTA’s own website clearly states that a Medicare card is valid for free transportation on its city lines.

I'm still working on it. I'll have to contact Septa.

We were from NY visiting Philly. He has a senior Philly ID card, and I have a Disabled Philly ID card. Neither has a picture on it. He rode for free, and disabled pays $1 and 1/2 fare on regional.
