Verrazano Bridge and bus routes |
|
Posted by Joe on Fri Feb 27 20:07:29 2015 A story on silive.com today (the website for the Advance) explains that a new upper level traffic pattern will begin March 7, 2015, on the Verrazano Bridge. Apparently the entire upper deck will be redone, not just repaved, lane by lane. There is an off-hand remark that express buses will use the lower level, and also a remark that a 7th lane, a bus lane will be added. I find it difficult to imagine how a lane could be added, as there are no walkways to squeeze. Any explanation? Thanks. Joe |

Once completed HOV users will have a seamless, continuous route from Staten Island to the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel in Brooklyn. “The new Bus/HOV lane on the bridge will be a great benefit to all who use it,” said Verrazano-Narrows Facility Engineer David Riggs. “It is the missing piece of the puzzle that will save people time and improve traffic flow daily.” |

Is the HOV lane on the BQE reversed in the evening? I do not understand why it s closed during non-rush hours. It should be open in one direction since traffic is sometimes heavy also during midday and on weekends. |
