Direct bus transfer needed between Q8/B13 routes and the B6 route |
|
Posted by Nyctransitman on Fri Nov 21 18:04:44 2014 The B6 route needs to enter the Gateway Center Mall area at Schenck Avenue/Gateway Drive and stop within the Gateway Center Mall Terminal (looping in and out both directions) for B6 passengers to access the Gateway Center Mall plus provide these important bus transfers. |

The problem is that you delay the trip for:a) Anybody trying to get from Ashford Street down to any point west of Gateway b) Anybody living west of Gateway trying to get to the New Lots train station. |

Correct. What you need is a new route. I suggest you renumber the B82 Limited as the B81 and reroute it to serve Gateway or else you just extend the B82 Limited via the Belt Parkway like the B83 currently does. |

Good point but I wonder how many people there are from Cozine Avenue/Glenwood Road area actually utilize the B6 to transfer to the IRT Subway Station at the New Lots Avenue Subway Station when these same passengers could take the B6 the opposite way to transfer to the "L" subway line at Rockaway Parkway Subway Station? Also these passengers from that same vicinity can also take the B20 route at Wortman Avenue to the Pennslyvania Avenue IRT #3 Subway Station as well as the B84 route for Ashford Street passengers. Perhaps the MTA should create two branches of the B6/B6Limited route so that half of the B6 buses would serve the New Lots Avenue Subway Station under the present routing and half of the B6 buses could be rerouted at Cozine Avenue/Schenck Avenue to instead serve the Gateway Center Mall and then travel via B13 routing to Linden Blvd./Eldert Lane sering the US Postal facility & the Multiplex Theatres |

Agree with this but think the B81 (Limited) shoulden't travel to Coney Island but at Cropsey Avenue/Bay Parkway be rerouted to 86th Street/4th Avenue/Bay Ridge via Cropsey Avenue then B8 routing (but with limited stops). I'm assumimg the B81 would be a limited only route. |

What about a B5 route that runs between Coney Island Avenue and Gateway Mall? This would turn the B6 into a Limited-only route on weekdays and Saturdays. |

That's what is the problem with how the routes evolved. Everytime service was needed, they just extended a nearby route without regard to analyzing the routes to find out where the passengers were actually going or if any needed to be extended. |

There's no point in going past the mall. Neither the USPO nor the Linden Multiplex would be good ridership generators. |

There might be if the route could also later be extended into Queens via Linden Blvd., Conduit Blvd. & Cross Bay Blvd. to Liberty Avenue for transfers to Queens Bus routes and the "A" Subway Line. |

First of all, if you want to extend it further east, you do it in one shot. You don't have it ending in the middle of nowhere (or at least, in an area where there is likely very little ridership) in the meantime.Second of all, a route running from Queens all the way down to Bensonhurst would be ridiculously unreliable. The B6 bunches as is. |

Cost savings could be had by extending B6 Limited-stop service to Van Siclen Avenue and then all stops (after Rockaway Parkway, the stops would be at East 108 Street and Pennsylvania Avenue). |

They need limited stop service along Bay Parkway as well not just in the center of the B6 route. Perhaps a new limited stop layer of service along the entire B6 route called B6X to indicate limited service along the entire B6 line between Bensonhurst and Gateway and/or Queens. This branch of the B6 route (B6X) could travel limited stop all the way between Bensonhurst to Gateway Center Mall, then USPO and then into Queens terminating at Cross Bay Blvd./Liberty Avenue and/or Aqueduct Racino while the regular local and regular limited B6 route travel to New Lots Avenue with some still short turning at Rockaway Parkway. This branch of the B6 route could operate every thirty minutes seven days per week. To help pay for this two B6 per hour (regular)limited buses (Monday - Saturday) and two B6 local buses per hour(Sunday) could be eliminated and converted to B6X buses. Evenings and nights would be added cost for the B6X branch since that B6 local service shouldn't be cut. |

I previously proposed many years ago to the MTA that the B15 stop along North Conduit Avenue/Cross Bay Blvd. in the westbound direction and loop around Cross Bay Blvd., 153rd Avenue/151st Avenue & 89th Street in the eastbound direction for transfers to the Q41 & Q21 routes. For the Aqueduct Racino access they could also extend the Q7 route from the Euclid Avenue Subway Station to the IRT New Lots Avenue Subway Station via Euclid Avenue, Linden Blvd. & Ashford/Cleveland St.the way the former Q21A used to operate. |
