TransportAzumah bus service aims to replace Rocakway Ferry service? |

Posted by Gold_12th on Tue Oct 28 19:06:30 2014 A transportation company is considering offering rapid bus transport to temporarily replace the Rockaway ferry service, which will cease to exist at the end of the month.Service would begin Monday, Nov. 3 and would cost $5 each way. The company, TransportAzumah, believes that an express bus making limited steps could match the travel time of the ferry. President Joel Azumah says his intention is to turn the route over to the MTA early next year after funding is found for the agency to implement direct bus service. The bus would stop at the ferry landing at Beach 108th Street and Fort Tilden and travel into Lower Manhattan and New Jersey. The Manhattan stop would likely be the intersection of Water and Wall Streets, but could be moved to Church Street and Broadway and Rector Streets if there is enough demand. The New Jersey stop is the Newport Center Mall, Azumah said. Azumah said the new bus is likely to be a reality, but the company is collecting feedback from potential customers. It's not a bad ride. I used to take it when if I had to do something in Manhattan or DUMBO when I was dating this girl in Rockaway. Nice, pleasant ride to Pier 11, and then for DUMBO just catch the East River Ferry one stop. |

The issue though, especially on the PM runs, is what happens if the bus is late coming from New Jersey and if there are passengers from New Jersey taking this route they might not appreciate being told that since their bus is late they have to wait for the next run especially if it is the last run of the day |

The judge reclassified the service as open door despite the fact that the service was a special operation under NYSDOT rules.In this situation, I am using the nuclear option of federal pre-emption until I can twist the MTA's arm to pick up the service. By March 2015, you should expect to see MTA buses on this service. |
