1 Dead, Dozens Injured After Bus From NYC-Based Company Crashes In Delaware

A bus with a New York license plate crashed and overturned in Delaware, leaving one woman dead and several other people injured, authorities said.
Officials said the accident, which happened around 4:20 p.m. Sunday in Bear, Delaware, did not involve other vehicles.
Delaware State Police Spokesman Sgt. Paul Shavack said the bus belonged to AM USA Express Inc., a company based in New York City, 1010 WINS reported.
Shavack said there were 50 passengers on board when the bus overturned onto its left side. He said the woman was killed at the scene of the crash, and that troopers found her body under the bus.
The other 49 passengers were taken to several area hospitals for injuries varying in severity. Shavack said between three and five people were in critical condition.
The bus driver, who authorities said was not critically injured, was being interviewed by investigators.
Elvis D’cruz, 19, told The Associated Press he was driving with a friend when he came upon the overturned bus. He said he and his friend pulled over and were there before first responders arrived.
“Everyone was in pain and crying out for help,” said D’cruz. “There was not one person without blood on them.”
The Penn State Brandywine student said the bus had overturned on an off-ramp from Delaware’s Route 1 that is known for being steep.
Authorities had no immediate information on the cause of the crash.
Looking at images from GoogleEarth Street View date 11/2012 and 10/2013: No visible exit speed sign. No reduction in speed limit approaching exits. Only one arrow sign for right curve at end of concrete barrier. Interchange seems poorly marked for the sharp curve on the exit ramp (as of those dates). And other news reports state that this ramp has a history of mishaps.
