Quick Question About Bus Operation Costs

Does anybody know of any source where I can find an approximate breakdown of the costs for operating a bus. I know the cost is often over $100 per hour, but I know that only a certain portion (maybe $30-$35, plus benefits) is actually going to the driver. Can anybody give a breakdown of the actual costs in terms of mantainance and things like that?

Are you looking for transit, commuter, charter or contract operations?

Your figure of $100/cph varies - that's more in line for transit and commuter operations where you either have low equipment utilization or low revenue recovery.

The rule of thumb is that about 70 percent of the operating expense is wages and benefits. This figure includes not only the driver but also for a portion of maintenance and administrative expenses.

Most is employee expenses pay benefits etc... Who knows the way things are going watch for driverless buses in dedicated computer guided lanes. The unions are gonna love that.
