New MTA plates... New error... How do you spell 'Transportation'?
Posted by Gold_12th on Wed Sep 3 02:14:11 2014 edf40wrjww2msgDetailB:detailStr fiogf49gjkf0d A new license plate appearing on some fleet vehicles belonging to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is not spelled correctly. The reference is to the “Transporation” Authority. It’s missing a “t.” It is not an abbreviation of the MTA’s name. Although some have speculated “transportation” didn’t fit in the space on the plate. The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles says it was not an MTA error. The state is trying to figure out the problem that occurred between the designers and manufacturers. The order called for 908 plates, according to the DMV. Andy boy has now paid designers & manufacturers for something we get for a debt to society. I wonder are these designers & manufacturers getting 10 years of tax free benefits for moving to NY? If all of the above is true, we get mispelled plates at 3X the cost. Brilliant!

So this isn't exactly unique to New York, but you'd think someone would've spotted this error before production.

I caught it in time and notified my boss before it had been distributed. The only problem as that I had to reprint 10,000 pages that said "Metropolitan Transporation Authority" in the header. Probably no one would have noticed anyway since it wasn't distributed to the public, but only to about half a dozen people at most. Today, I am surprised autocorrect didn't just pick it up and correct it automatically.
